Tutoring in Schools is a programme that places Ulster University student tutors in a primary, secondary or special school. I took part in the programme in 2012 when I was doing the MA Art in Public at Ulster University.

I designed and painted the mural at St. Therese of Lisieux primary school with 5th class students. The pupils first experimented with design ideas on paper around the theme of 'beastie bugs'.  We then painted the mural on an exterior wall of the school facing the school garden.

 

The children had lots of input and I really enjoyed working with them. We all learned about teamwork and the joy and skills involved in painting an outdoor mural.
